About Dexter Boldewijn:
Also known as SPNDEX. Dexter is a 23 year old multidisciplinary visual artist currently working in Utrecht. He has a formal education in animation and film, but is also very passionate about illustration, printmaking, comics, zines and painting. Additionally he is interested to try his hand at any new artform that sparks his interest, and he has a strong preference for mixed media and combining artforms. When he's not making art he likes to go to cultural events, travel around, hang out with his friends, and enjoys the queer nightlife, which is also where he draws a lot of his inspiration for art from.
Dexter is a very excitable person, and is always looking to meet new people and start new projects. Collaborating with other artists is what he is most passionate about. Starting this collective with his friends was a huge opportunity for him, and being able to make art with likeminded people motivates and inspires him everyday.

Artist Statement:
"Im SPNDEX, a 23 year old multidisciplinary visual artist, born in Arnhem and currently working in Utrecht. I make dynamic and experimental work that focuses on imagination, relatability, and raw emotion. In my work I mix humor and naivety with explicit imagery and LGBT thematics. My main passion lies in illustration and animation using a mix of traditional and digital media. But I like to dabble and experiment in visual art of any kind, including printmaking, comics, film, and performance. As a transgender person of colour, I make edgy, underground work for the underdogs. I take inspiration from the city, queer nightlife, my friends, anime, and early 2000’s cartoons, to show worlds, stories and people that remain hidden in most mainstream media."
